final update :P
Well then it has been a fun couple of months working on this project but now that it is almost over we have been pulling some all nighters in the last few weeks. Sometimes even with a little midnight walk, to clear the head from the motherload of bugs we have had to deal with. And now in the final couple of days all we really need to do is to fix the last couple of bugs, finish up some levels and tweak all the things.
So during our last project meeting we decided to relieve some off the stress and have a little beer :P.
As far as i can say for me, the last couple of days were really long. We had to start over again with making the levels, because we weren't really satisfied with how they played. So I had to work some long days to remake all the levels so they played to our liking.
We now also have different powers players can choose from, you can play with fire, put out the fire with some water/ice, drop some bombs all over the place, shock everyone with the electricity plays and stomp the enemies into the ground with some earth powers. we have also made synergy between different powers so you can combine your differrent powers to make them even more powerful.
We are still creating some more enemies for you guys to kill. When you are playing the game, each time you begin a new level the enemies will be randomly selected. We now have all sorts of different enemies for you to fight, we have ranged enemies who shoot bursts of water or melee enemies that throw you away, because F you :0.
When we think the game is ready we will post something online and we will ask you guys to help us tweak the game and help us find some last bugs that need fixing before our deadline on monday. So look out for another anouncement this weekend. This is our last mandatory post, but if you guys want us to continue with developping the game let us know and we might speek again in the future. But for now pea soup.

We regret to announce that our alpha version will not be available for download this evening. But we will make sure that you can download it tomorrow evening. So the release date has changed to Sunday 12-1-2014 at 8 PM CET.

Alpha time!!
Now that the holidays are over, it is time for another update on Elemental madness.
well then that was it for this weeks update, have fun playing the game tomorrow, give us feedback so we can make the game better (like that is even possible ;p)
I hope everyone had a very nice holiday season, and got the presents they wanted. We haven't really done much about elemental madness during the holidays, so we had to pick it up again at the start of this week. During this weeks meeting we made a decision to make an alpha version of the game, so you can start playing the game, and help us out by giving us feedback. We will then use this feedback to make the game even better, if that is even possible. While you are playing the game, we will continue to make more enemies for you to kill and more levels to play. The alpha version will be online on Saturday at 8 PM CET.
During the same meeting we decided to change up the artstyle of our game, the previous style would give our artist to much work in to little time. So we decided to change to a more pixelated artstyle. Next to this you can see our new player sprites for the game.
Now that our alpha version is almost finished, we can focus on expanding the gameplay elements. Our goal in the next couple of weeks is to make more powers for you to choose from, in the alpha version you will have 3 standard powers. Later in the development we will add more of the powers, and also we will add synergy between powers, for example you can combine water and electricity to make it more effective.
We will also be making a lot of new levels, so the game will never be the same each time you play it. Each time you beat 5 levels, you get to fight a boss. And we will be making new enemies which will al have their own strong points and weak points. There are 2 different kinds of enemies, a melee enemy and a ranged enemy.

"bugs, bugs everywhere"
Now for the next installment of this blog, we are going to talk about the last few weeks.
First of all we had to do a presentation about our game for the class we are following in University. And after a short night for most of the teammembers, due to bugs that needed fixing. Just before the presentation we found out that there were still some bugs in the latest version of the game, so we were forced to present a demo from a two week old version of the game. But in the end the presentation was a succes, so we are happy XD.
After quite a lot of time, our artist has finished the first sprites and animations for the game, here are some examples:

These are the sprites for the different powers you can choose. In the first one timmy has set itself on fire, out of pure desperation. The second one is a sprite for terrorist timmy, dropping bombs all day. In the last one Timmy is "diggin" his time in the game, just like you will.
At the moment Timmy has 4 different powers which all consist of 2 different attacks, for example fire Timmy has a flamethrower as main weapon and can also drop a huge flaming ball that does damage when the enemies walk into it.
In the last two weeks one of our members has been developping the enemy class, and after a lot of blood, sweat and tears it is almost finished. He has made an enemy superclass, so that it is a lot easier to add new enemies. This class has a lot of parameters so we can tweak the enemy to our liking with ease. A few examples of the parameters: there is a parameter which is used for the knockback the player gets when he gets hit by an enemy, another one to indicate if the enemy is ranged or that it is a melee character, and what the exact range of his attacks are. The enemies now even have artificial intelligence, AI, they look for the enemy and when he is in range they will chase him down and they can even jump onte higher or lower platforms to chase the player. and if they are in attack range of the player they will try to annihilate you.
Also, we now have a working scoring system, you get a certain score when you complete one of the levels and if you kill an enemy. If you die it shows a graphical keyboard where you can type in your name by clicking on the keyboardtiles. When you typed in your name and it is one of the top ten scores you can find it in the high scores list.
We are now working on the the powerselection screen, so you can choose which powers you want to use on your run. But this had some bugs, during the presentation, so we are still working on that. Our leveleditor has also started to develop the first levels of the game and is going to continue making levels untill he dreams new levels, and then make some more.
We now have the foundation of our game, so the next step for us is to expand the game as much as possible to make it even more fun for you guys to play.
